Atuh Beach, Nusa Penida Bali

This soft white sandy beach has a beautiful landscape. Even its beauty is often compared to Raja Ampat in Papua because it also has a view with a stunning cluster of coral islands. No wonder people call Atuh Beach the Raja Ampat of Nusa Penida.

At Atuh Beach you will see four large coral islands, namely Batu Melawang/Pepadasan Island, Batu Paon Island, Batu Abah Island and Bukit Jineng Island. This coral island is the main attraction on Nusa Penida’s Atuh Beach.

On the white sand, you can relax while sunbathing or playing in the sand. The water is also very clear so that when it is receding, the beauty of the underwater life looks very charming. While enjoying the beauty of the beach atmosphere, there’s nothing wrong if you take the best selfie photos at Atuh Beach, Nusa Penida.

Batu Bolong at Atuh Beach Nusa Penida
The most interesting coral island is Batu Melawang Island. This island is the largest island on Atuh Beach. The unique thing is that on this island there is a giant hole or a kind of coral tunnel. Therefore, people often refer to it as “Batu bolong”.

Local people believe that every fishing boat that will sail into the sea off Atuh Beach must first pass through a hole on Batu Melawang Island. Even today, no one dares to violate this myth because it has its magical value.

The name Atuh comes from a spring near the location of Atuh Beach. Precisely located west of Atuh Temple. This spring is still used by residents.

Uniquely, even though it is close to the coastline, the freshwater does not taste salty at all. And even when the dry season arrives, the spring never runs dry. That is why this beach location is called Atuh which is taken from the words “A” which means ‘no’ and “Tuh” means ‘dry’, so it can be assumed that it means ‘never dry’.
